HYPNOSIS
The state of mental and physical relaxation, or hypnosis, varies in depth from a very light state of relaxation, characterised by daydreaming, intermediate to waking and dreaming, to a deeper more profound sense of relaxation and receptivity which is sometimes referred to as trance. These are waking states, in which the individual is more or less conscious of their surroundings and of the therapist. This relaxed state has particular advantages in therapeutic terms in that it is conducive to contact with the resources and workings of the unconscious mind in which we can find the deepest stratum of our thoughts and feelings.
PSYCHOTHERAPY
Psychotherapy is essentially a therapy for the mind, a means of resolving psychological issues. This is achieved through synthesis of the fruits of discussion, analysis, illumination and expansion which are particular to and can characterise the therapeutic process. In this way experience can be understood and integrated, helping us to grow in our understanding of ourselves, our lives and enriching our existence with the meaning and significance we find in our experience.
